Copy & Paste not working in Excel 2010 or Word 2010

Running Microsoft Excel 2010 on Windows 7? Problems with Copy and Paste feature not working as expected. I.E Your copying cells from excel and when pasting them into Word or another program - the tables are not pasting in only the raw data?

The solution that we have found is when Skype is installed - the problem can randomly occur.

Step 1. Uninstall Skype - Restart your PC/Laptop - Test Excel Copy & Paste function

Step 2. Go to www.skype.com and download the latest version and re-install skype - Restart your PC and re-test Excel.

This has worked for us on several occasions thus far. Hopefully a thorough patch will be released from Skype or Microsoft soon.

Amazing - this fix worked! So very glad you figured out the problem, I would have gone insane trying to work it out myself.

Worked for me too. In fact, just uninstalling skype did the trick, no reboot required. But I will reboot just be sure. Thx!!!

For a good many days now I noticed a problem just inside Excel 2010 itself - when I copied a formula and pasted it the formula didn't paste - only the value. Was driving me CRAZY - but this fixed it.

Cool - I was having the same problem with not being able to copy and paste functions in excel - and this fixed it. On a side note, I didn't uninstall Skype - just the separate Skype "click to call" app.

Disclaimer: I'm working as Community Manager for Skype and found this blog when looking for discussions around this problem.

As Steve correctly pointed it out indeed was an older version of the "Skype Click to Call" toolbar that was causing this problem. We fixed the problem as soon as we learned about it already in April 2012: http://blogs.skype.com/garage/2012/04/skype_click_to_call_fix_for_of.html

The quickest way to solve the copy & paste problem you are experiencing is to simply update to the newest toolbar version. Go to http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/on-your-computer/click-to-call/windows/ and click Download Now.

Uninstalling Lync is not necessary. Just disable the add-in of Lync from your browser like IE or firefox.
1. In IE, Tools>>Manage Add-in>> Select 'Lync' and DISABLE it.
now check for copy/paste in Excel. Surely works !!!

Yes, was the Skype IE add-in (Click to call feature) - just uninstall this and all works great!

Wow, I've been stymied by this very annoying glitch for quite a while and uninstalling Skype worked when nothing else did. Thanks so much!!

Had the same problem on Excel 2007 under Vista. Disabling the Skype Click to Call add-on in my IE9 browser (as per Khushahai) immediately fixed it for me.

My problem with Excel 2010 is when I copy a cell and then paste it into Word, Notepad or Internet Explorer it adds a Return to the end of the data that was in the cell. Therefore, when pasting the data in the cell to one of the other products it causes the cursor to move to the next line. This just recently started happening. I suspect that it was caused by one of the recent automatic Windows Updates. (I do not have Skype installed as far as I know.)
