 Creating a VPN Connection in Windows 7

Step One: Click the ‘start’  icon in the bottom left hand corner and open the ‘control panel’. In the ‘control panel’ click ‘Network and Internet’ category as shown below:


Then click ‘Network and Sharing Center’ as shown below:


Within the ‘Network and Sharing Center’ click on the first optionSet up a new connection or network’ this falls under ‘Change your networking settings’ as shown below in the red rectangle:


Step Two: The ‘Set Up a Connection or Network’ dialogue box is then displayed. Select ‘Connect to a workplace’ and click ‘Next’ as shown below:


In the next phase select ‘Use my Internet connection (VPN)’ as shown in the example below:


Step Three: You will then be prompted to enter the’ Internet’ address and ‘Destination name’. Enter the details for ‘Internet address’ as provided by your System Administrator or IT Manager. additionally if you do not wish to connect to this VPN Network tick the 'Don't Connect Now...' box and click ‘Next’ as shown below:


Finally enter your username and password and tick Remember this password’ and click Create. If you are unsure of your login credentials please contact your System Administrator or IT Manager:


Step Four: Click ‘Close’ and your connection is now fully setup and ready to use anytime you are away from the office. To connect the VPN connection at a later date. Click the monitor icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen and the dialogue box shows as below:


Simply select the VPN Connection and hit ‘Connect’ then you will be prompted with the Connect VPN Connection menu - click Connect as shown below:

Once you have successfully established a VPN connection, you will then be able to access all the network resources available through the Gateway provider.
