Error 812: The connection was prevented because of a policy configuration on your RAS/VPN server

Error 812 may be displayed when attempting to connect to a Windows VPN Server. This error indicates that the attempt to establish a VPN connection was rejected by the server..

To fix this, log into the Domain Controller on the network running the Windows Routing and Remote access server:

  1. Click Start and type in Active Directory users and Computers into the Quick Search then open it.
  2. Navigate down to the account in question and open up its properties.
  3. On the "Dial-in" tab check that under "Remote Access Permissions (Dial-in or VPN)" that "Allow Access" is selected. If it is not then change it and Apply the update.

Finally retry the VPN Connection.

If the solution offered above did not correct the issue there may be other problems affecting the VPN server or client. Contact Us and one of our engineers will be happy to resolve the issue for you.

tried, this method didn't work on Windows Server Essentials 2012.
i wouldn't go with this option as well, as I wouldn't then be able to control granular access level using the policy server.
